A friend of mine recently had her aura read and mentioned it over coffee in that “I’m just going to casually mention this thing” way friends sometimes do. She explained how she’d visited a Spiritual Intuitive, sitting for an aura photograph which had then been interpreted for her. She came away with insights about who she is, answers to a few questions she asked, and a great story to share.
Curiosity plus the fact that I’m always trying to understand myself (or at least gather more evidence for why I am how I am) sealed the deal. I immediately booked myself an appointment.
Some of you are probably thinking, “This makes perfect sense,” while the rest of you may be squinting a little. I’m married to a squinter. I get it. Here’s the thing: I’m someone who chooses to believe in a lot of things, because why not? On the list:
Santa Claus is real, even if my parents helped him out on Christmas Eve
Things will OK
There’s a higher power who keeps tabs on me and, though it may not bend to my will or grant wishes, it’s a source of strength
Love
All of this skincare is doing something
I would never tell anyone else they should believe in anything. I’m just saying that I tend to choose to believe in things that can’t necessarily be explained by science but feel right. And I can now say that this aura reading is part of that list. I mean…just look at this picture!
Let me walk you through my experience. Picture this: I pulled open an unmarked door next to an antique store and climbed a narrow staircase. The hallway gave off a distinct private-eye-in-a-90s-indie-film vibe—narrow, creaky, and a little dim. If I’d seen a flickering fluorescent light or a guy in a fedora sipping cheap coffee, it wouldn’t have felt out of place.
But then I stepped into the healer’s office, and it was like stepping into the most energetically calm space you can imagine. Big old windows spilled light across the room, indie music played softly in the background, and the faint scent of herbs and something woodsy floated in the air. The vibe was part cozy apothecary, part cool older cousin’s loft.
The process itself was simple: I sat at a table, placed my hands on metallic sensors shaped like, well, hands, while the practitioner set up behind what looked like a vintage camera. He told me to stay very still. Naturally, I smiled instinctively—"Aura!"—before realizing this wasn’t that kind of photo. I let my face relax into its natural state. A polaroid-style photograph printed from the camera, and then came the reading.
A quick primer on auras in case all of this is completely unfamiliar: An aura is often described as an energetic field that surrounds living beings—kind of like an electromagnetic signature that reflects your mood, health, and personality. While it’s not something science has officially proven, many spiritual and holistic traditions believe that everything alive gives off this subtle energy.
You know how you can sometimes walk into a room and just sense someone’s energy before they even speak? Maybe someone feels warm and inviting, or tense and stressed, without them saying a word—that's often how people describe interacting with a person’s aura, whether consciously or not.
The basis of my reading was that auras can appear as colors, with each color symbolizing different emotional or physical states. The colors and definitions here mirror what the practitioner I worked with used.
Your aura is a reflection of your inner world showing up on the outside.
My aura is bathed in indigo and violet, and the healer I worked with told me that means I’m a lightworker: someone here to use their abilities to help guide others (people, animals, or the planet). According to the healer, my aura lands solidly among the spiritually gifted, as opposed to being more rooted in the earth or body.
Indigo is tied to intuition, communication, and the kind of deep-feeling, “Old Soul” energy that sounds like it should come with a warning label: Always Overthinking. Individuals with violet in their aura are deeply sensitive and wise. They feel they’re here for a purpose and strive to fulfill it.
All of that tracks. Not because I think I’m some mystical being with a hotline to the universe (though that would explain my love for lavender mint tea and early-morning journaling). But because, as we talked about creativity, writing, and the purpose I’ve been quietly circling my entire life, it felt…true. Familiar. Like when you finally find the perfect word for a feeling you’ve had all along.
Sometimes, we forget that we don’t always need to find ourselves. Sometimes, we need to remember ourselves. To listen. To have the courage and conviction to act on who we are.
So, would I recommend getting your aura read? If you’re curious, absolutely. Worst-case scenario, you get a very cool picture and a story to tell. Best case? You get a little nudge reminding you that you’re already the person you’ve been trying to become.
Let me know in the comments: What color do you think your aura is, and why?
And as always: Thank you for being part of this community. I appreciate you!
Until next time,
Sara
No idea why or want it means but I immediately thought yellow but maybe that’s because I just folded a bunch of yellow napkins & put a yellow tablecloth on the table.🤷♀️
